Barb has always loved sewing, getting to express her creativity, and being around other people. When her daughter introduced her to Autumn Glen Senior Living, a community managed by The Goodman Group, she realized it could be a great place to continue enjoying her passion.
And since her move, Barb has enjoyed being able to do what she wants, when she wants. Plus, she has control of her own future.

Freedom to Enjoy Her Hobbies
Barb loves being creative with arts, crafts, and sewing. And at Autumn Glen Senior Living, she’s had the opportunity to get involved with groups that allow her to do just that.
Today, she teaches a monthly class where she guides other residents as they make creative cards. “I got involved as soon as I could with whatever I could,” she says.
Not only is she involved in her community, but she also enjoys spending personal time on her own hobbies. As a Texas Woman’s University alumna who majored in clothing and fashion merchandise, it’s no surprise that she loves to sew! “It’s really part of my creativity,” she says.
Freedom to Make Her Own Decision
At 73 years old, Barb knows that there may come a time when she’d need to move into assisted living. One of the benefits of senior living apartments is that as a resident, you could make an easy, comfortable transition into assisted living if needed. And it takes the pressure off of both the parent and child.
“I didn’t want my daughter to ever have to say, ‘I’m going to put her in a nursing home,’” she says. “This way, I could make my own decision.”
Friendship within Her Home
“This is my family,” Barb says, “this is a great community to be in.” With the flexibility to enjoy her favorite pastimes to the many activities going on within the community, there are a lot of opportunities to make new friends.
“The staff was very helpful and accommodating in welcoming us,” she says. “I like it very much.”
