Louise isn’t your average 92 year old. She’s active, has big dreams, and loves trying new things. So, it only makes sense that she would fulfill a longtime dream for her 92nd birthday with the help of Chandler Place, a senior living community managed by The Goodman Group in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she lives. Her dream? Well, you could say it was a little atypical.
She learned how to drive an 18-wheeler.

Her Reason for Truckin’
Louise spent years riding in trucks alongside her husband, who drove for a living, but never got the chance to sit behind the wheel herself. "I've always wanted to drive a truck because of my husband," Louise says. "Driving was a passion for him. He was the love of my life, and I think of him when I think of trucks."
So, on her 92nd birthday, she decided to turn that dream into a reality.
The Driving Lesson
Of course, you can’t just jump in the driver’s seat of an 18-wheeler without a lesson first. So, Louise met with Tom, a local truck driving instructor, to learn the basics of maneuvering such a large truck.
Then, in front of her family and friends, she hoisted herself into the driver's seat, grabbed the wheel, and gradually accelerated forward.
As she continued around the track, she joked to Tom, "I forgot to tell you I have a heavy foot!"
After navigating some tight turns, Louise gracefully pulled the truck to a stop at the end of the track and climbed out to meet her family, who had a birthday cake for her.
A Life Lesson
"My mother is very tenacious," says Cheryl, Louise's daughter. "She's this 92-year-old little woman and she's not afraid to do anything. She's an amazing woman, actually. Very amazing."
Amazing is right. We learn valuable lessons from residents like Louise every day like never stop chasing your dreams no matter where you are in life.
"If there's something that you want to do, dream about it, think about it, and don't give up," says Louise. "That's what life is all about."
